Cabbage thoran / cabbage stirfry is a simple recipe .This South Indian / Kerala is an easy everyday recipe , as side dish with rice.
*You can add small onion/shallots and green chilly finely chopped while tempering ,and avoid coconut( while cooking for everyday menu) .
*A small piece of ginger can be added with the ingredients ' to grind'.
Ingredients
Cabbage _ 2 cups( finely chopped)
Turmeric Powder _ 1/4 tsp
Red Chilly Powder _ 1/2 tsp
Salt _ as needed
Coconut _ 1/2 cup
Green Chilly _ 2
Shallot _ 2
Coconut Oil _ 1 1/2 tsp
Mustard _ 1 1/2 tsp
Red Chilly _ 1-2
Raw Rice and Urad Dal _ 1tsp +1 tsp
Curry Leaves _ few
1. To temper in a kadai ,heat coconut oil .Add mustard ,once it splutter add red chilly ,raw rice and urad dal .Let it sizzle for a second.
2. Add cabbage with salt ,turmeric powder, red chilly powder mix well and sprinkle some water for cabbage to cook .Let it cook in medium flame keep the lid closed.
3. Mean while in the small bowl of mixer add the ingredients 'To Grind.' Coarsely grind them .
4. Once the cabbage is cooked add ground coconut mixture to thorn and mix well .Cook in low flame for a minute .
Serve hot with rice.
