Kadala Curry /Kerala Style Kadala Curry Recipe / Chana Curry

Puttu with Kadal is a very famous breakfast item from 'God's own country' ! Chick peas curry  or 'Kadala curry ' (in Malayalam) is a spicy side dish with roasted coconut gravy ,served as side dish with Puttu,appam,idyappam ....But I love to have this curry with plain rice and curd....have you tried this combo do let me know in comments.

Ingredients


Black Chick Pea/ Channa _  1 cup
Turmeric powder _ 1tsp
Chilly powder _ 1 tsp
Salt _  as needed

To grind

Coconut (grated) _  3/4 cup
Red chilly  _  4
Coriander Seeds _ 1 tbsp

For Seasonings

Coconut oil  _ 1 tbsp
Mustard _  2 tsp
Curry Leaves _  few
Red chilly _  2 (optional)






1.Soak chick Pea / chana for 8 hours or over night .In a pressure cooker cook chana adding enough water,salt,turmeric powder,chilly powder .Cook till chana becomes soft.



2.Dry roast coriander seeds and chilly and keep aside .Then dry roast grated coconut till light golden brown colour.





3.Grind into a smooth paste adding 1 tbsp of cooked chana .Adding 1 tbsp of cooked chana gives a thickness to gravy.





4.Add the paste to chana .Bring to boil .



5.Add the seasonings .
