Rasam is a south Indian side dish made with tamarind juice ,coriander powder,pepper/chilly powder. Traditional south Indian meal is not complete with out rasam. Health benefits of rasam are numerous. Rasam is usually served at the end of meal, as it helps in digestion. All of us at home love to drink rasam along with rice. There are many variations of rasam,but I make this regularly at home. In this recipe, is rasam made with tur dal and tomato.This is definitely an appetizer recipe.
Ingredients
Tomato _ 1
Tamarind _ a small ball(about a gooseberry size)
Coriander Leaves _ few
Salt _ as needed
To grind
Garlic _ 6 podsCoriander powder _ 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder _ 1/4 tsp
Pepper cons_ 1 tsp
Jeera _1/2 tsp
Hing _ 1/2 tsp
For Seasonings
Oil _ as needed
Mustard _ 1/2 tsp
red chilly _ 1-2
curry leaves _ few
1.In a pressure cooker cook dal with tomato .Soak tamarind in luke warm water
2.Grind the ingredients 'to grind' into a smooth paste and keep aside.
3.Once the cooker cools down, mash dal and tomato well .Using a strainer, strain and squeeze out the juice .Add the ground paste and salt to rasam bring to boil.
