Rice is served first with ghee-dal/parippu curry and then with sambar and other curries.In my home town we usually plain dal and ghee for sadhya. Dal or parippu curry with coconut gravy is also served in many parts of Kerala . Some days I prepare dal with coconut gravy as a side dish for rice .

Salt _ as needed
Ghee _ 1/2 tsp
Cook 1/2 cup dal adding turmeric powder and salt. Once cooked add ghee .Serve with hot rice.
Usually parippu curry is in thick consistency.Pressure cook for 2-3 whistle and mash dal )
